    Bob,
    I believe if you poke around in that site you'll find some opinions, not
    necessarily scientific data. I stumbled onto it while looking for info on
    rope to chain info.
    I think its biggest claim is that because there are no sharp returns like
    with an eye that the stress is less and that it is less subject to damage
    from chafe.
    I am presently using the shown three stand to chain splice kind of like a
    test. I always connect a trip line to the anchor hoping that if the splice
    doesn't hold I can get the anchor back.
    So far so good but I can't say we've been is a situation that I would call a
    real test.
