I had a two step process with an 80 pound Lab. I retrieved the retriever
first into a small inflatable boat attached to the swim platform. I
helped the dog into the inflatable by grabbing his collor and helped to
pull him into the inflatable.. From there the dog was motivated to go by
himself to the swim platform and then back into the trawler. My trawler
did not have a high transom like some so it was easy for the dog to jump
from the swim platform unto the deck through the transom door.

The dog would shake himself on the inflatable; it was impossible for me
to stay dry, since I had to be in the inflatable too. The motivation
initially was some dog treats when he returned to the deck. The dog
would also launch himself from the inflatable when he wanted to retrieve
    something thrown into the water.

    Good luck, Bob
