    But alas, boat names are not the only ones that may be confusing. A retired
    Coastie tells the story of a town in the Northeast (US) named Ditch Plain.
    I'm sure you can imagine exactly what sort of aviation calamity befell the
    good townspeople there some years ago.

    When I used to teach the auxiliary courses, I would always spend some time
    talking about boat names in the context of safety. Picture the Coast Guard
    radio operator getting two distress calls concurrently on an especially
    nasty day. One is from "Reliant" and the other is from "Bite-Me!" Who do
    you think would get the only 41 foot rescue craft available?
