Since 1999 Canadian operators (air & Marine) have been told that they did
not require a vessel "Station License." Also there was a reciprocal
agreement with the US Government for Canadian vessels visiting the US.
Appears that 9/11 intervened and the agreement was not concluded.
The attached is a notice from local(Nanaimo) BC Squadron to pleasurecraft
operators of the current situation concerning Canadians who are advised to
check their local MCTS office.
Our American friends may wish to do likewise with heir authority.

_____
For immediate release.
Attention all operators (AIR & MARINE) .
In 1999 the Canadian Government in anticipation of a reciprocal agreement
with the US Government dispensed with the requirement of a VHF STATION
LICENCE for pleasure craft.
Recently, post 9/11 other issues have come to the forefront and this issue
has not been concluded and an agreement has not been reached.
There for all Canadian pleasure craft operators should be aware that when in
US territory they may be asked for proof of their station license.
This can be easily obtained by contacting;
Mr. Jim Laursen,
Industry Canada
318-816 Government Street
Victoria, B. C. V8W 1W9
Applications (#1C2378) can be obtained from the Government web site;
http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/internet/insmt-gst.nsf/en/h_sf06007e.html
Until this is resolved between our Governments any one who is contemplating
visiting the UNITED STATES is encouraged to obtain their STATION LICENSE
prior to departure other wise you run the risk of an interrupted voyage.

Nanaimo Power & Sail Squadron
