The closing weather window changed our crossing plans from the Bahamas to
the US. The weather was at the limits of our comfort level for those waters
- 15-20 knot winds, 4-6 foot seas. We planned a 26 hour passage from
Manjack Cay in the Sea of Abaco to Cape Canaveral. Our plans had us
crossing the Bahama bank and leaving it by sunset, going near Ft. Pierce
just in case we needed to bail out. This was our first overnight passage...
To make it short, it was rough. I've never been sea sick before and
treasure a 20-year "no vomit" record. I came very close to giving up that
record last night. It wasn't the wave height. For me it was darkness with
the relentless buffeting that we took for 20 hours.
Upon reaching Cape Canaveral, we tied up at the fuel dock of Cape Marina
before the bridge and lock. Powering up the computer detected three WiFi
spots. The marina was broadcasting but didn't know it. "Sure, go ahead and
use it," they told me. "Maybe we should advertise that we have it..."
Because of more than 1,000 emails waiting, I had to lose many of them -
don't ask why. I could see that I had received emails from some TWL/T&T
people. Please assume that I missed any emails if you sent me one.
With one "overnight" under our belt, we're planning another when the weather
improves.
On to Maine...
