I just installed home made alternator protectors.
I "reverse engineered" an Xantrex Zap-Stop to discover that
the active ingredient is a Motorola MR2535L zener diode. They
are $1.54 each in quantities of one to 99 at Allied Electronics.
The 20 amp slow blow fuse (Buss MDL-20) is $1.09.
I bought enough zeners and fuses to make zap stoppers for
a few of my friends. Even if you have to buy the in line fuse
holders it's still a bunch less expensive than $25 each.
