Since my 2200Watt Trace U2232 Failed (blown fet, no service available on 8yr
old product), I have decided to try another approach
1) 175 watt Mastercraft ($cdn69) for my computer
2) 700 watt Mastercraft ($cdn89) for my engine room fan
3) 1500 watt Mastercraft ($cdn229) for fridge and microwave and coffee
maker and power tools
It all works fine.
You will notice the fact that I bought "Cheap House Brand" units from
Canadian Tire. The 1500w Unit is definitely a xantrex Knockoff. My fridge
and Microwave worked fine all summer off it. the CDN tire unit has a 2yr
house warranty, over the counter exchange. Beats the heck out of
Trace-Xantrex non-support of my $2500 U2232. (Too Bad CANADIAN TIRE is only
in Canada, eh?)
So for less than $cdn400 I have replaced the functionality of my Trace. I
know full well that these units are not "marine" but all have CSA, UL, and
CE certifications stamped on the cases.
This is an "alternate strategy" but I have one spare 700w in the box, and my
genset can run a couple of hours in a day to keep my Sears ($cdn189) Fridge
cold.
Coming from the Commercial fishing industry, I have a long standing
suspicion of "Marine" stuff. I also have a sears 7cu ft freezer ($cdn229)
below. I plug it in when we are underway, have 4 1-gallon jugs of frozen
sea water ice in it for a cold sink, and it holds the steaks frozen just
fine.
Let's all plan to make 2004 Safe and OUTRAGEOUSLY enjoyed.
