The scariest shore power cord I ever saw was a 30 amp/120 VAC cord (10-3
wire) with a 50/240 female plug spliced onto the "boat" end and a 50/240 adapter
on the "shore" end. It would allow up to 50 amps of 120 to be drawn through the
cord. Interestingly, the boat had just been surveyed and the surveyor
missed/ignored it. He also missed a 2500 watt inverter with no fuse in the undersized
positive cable from the 2 x 8D battery bank. A double male plug extension
cord then carried 120 VAC power from the 15 amp receptacle on the inverter to an
outlet, thus backfeeding the 120 panel.
