Years back after drifting aground after my anchor broke loose, I connected a
panel mount Radio Shack alarm to my Garmin 65 GPS. This GPS unit does indeed
have a takeoff for the purpose. The alarm is a very low power unit that
produces an interrupted sound, and when this is coupled to the beeping output
of the GPS, the result is a loud irregular noise which will wake the dead.
Mine is mounted in the master cabin. And it works. The only advice would be to
turn off the differential input to the GPS if you are in a marginal reception
area or the alarm will sound when the radio signal is lost and wake you
    needlessly.

    Happy New Year
