On our Monk 36 we have cruised slowly through the NY canals, gunkholed
around the Chesapeake and fought and rode the currents of SC and Georgia
plus all points in between, putting on 1059.4 hours on the sole Perkins 135
engine and 252.3 hours on the Onan 6.5kW generator. We cruise between 2000
and 2200 RPM, normally 2100, and average 7.8 kts, plus or minus current.
To do this we consumed 2631.0 gallons of diesel at a total cost of $3272.94.
Our average cost for fuel is $1.244/gal. (I know I can do better!)
Neglecting generator consumption of fuel, we averaged 2.48 gal/hr on the
main. Presuming the generator consumes at a rate of 0.5 gal/hr and consumed
126 gallons of the 2631, leaving 2505 for the main engine, the main averaged
2.37 gal/hr.

Before buying the single engine Monk 36 we chartered for four days a twin
engine GB 36. I didn't spend any time in its engine room, although I did
peek and casually noticed almost non-existant room on the outboard sides of
the engines.
Compare this to the single engine of the Monk sitting right in the middle
with access to both sides, I certainly prefer a single engine.
