    Maybe you are trying to hinge the wrong end. Our yacht club is very
    strict about the boat not exceeding the slip length and a few members
    with long bow pulpits have hinged them. In the hinged mode the pulpit
    tilts up 90 deg. at the forward end of the hull. Doing this will
    probably mean that you would have to remove your anchor every time you
    return to your home dock.

    Just a thought....
