TWL: Gunking in the Chessy and GPS

    Ralph,
    We began our GPS navigating with a Garmin 12XL, plotting waypoints off a
    Chesa. chart book and loading them into the Garmin. Actually, we navigated
    primarily by the chart and compass (still do) and used the 12XL as a backup.
    Last year we graduated to the Garmin 176C chart plotter, still basically
    portable with a 12v plug and friction base and weatherproof. Not especially
    cheap, but it has met all our expectations. I think it would be a good
    compromise between a handheld and fixed mount unit and all a 22' gunkholer
    would need.
