It is very difficult, IMHO, to correlate a GPS reading with a paper chart in
a small vessel. A Maptech chart book and a Garmin 76S or similar might be
better. In addition, the state of MD publishes a small chartbook that
includes compass courses for most harbors and passages. A GPS that doesn't
have any charting capability is a waste on a small vessel, unless you count
its contribution to a precise Mayday.

| Greetings:
|
| My friend's wife wants to grace him with a GPS for the holidays.
|
| They have a 22 foot sail boat, and they want to explore the upper
Chesapeake
| and all of its secrets.
|
| She asked me to suggest a GPS.
|
| So my question is, using a chart along with a GPS...can you suggest both a
| moderate hand held, and stationary GPS that I can pass along to her?
