You may recall the movie "The Hunt for Red October" In it was the
latest nuclear sub from Russia and a pretty modern US sub. When it was time
to communicate between them using periscopes what did they use "morse code".
The captain of the US sub stated that his morse code was rusty but he went ahead
anyway. You never know when you might need these old fashioned methods. I for
one do use my sextant and use it to check just how close I can come to the
GPS. So far I have been able to attain 1/4 mile as my best. Not bragging but
practice makes perfect. Leonard Stern MTOA #893
