your batteries by putting the switch in the "both" position, your relay
is redundant, isn't it?
No. The start relay connects the house and start battery outputs as it
goes to the starters. It does not have anything to do with the
alternator outputs. The starting current does not run through the
battery selector switch. The current to activate the starters goes
directly from each battery, through the big starter relay that combines
both batteries, and to the starter motors.
