    When the light is on it is "COMBINING" your batteries in parallel. That
    means it detected a charging source and is sharing the charge.
    When the light is off, the batteries are separated meaning that there is no
    longer a charging source available.
    What else is there to "really know"?
    It is consierably more complex than a voltage switch, with about 30
    electronic components on a PC board inside.
