MDF is available in different grades. Commonly available MDF sheets are
heavy and difficult to handle (3/4"x4'x8' =s 110 pounds) and common MDF
absorbs water and expands prior to falling apart.

There are myriad materials better suited to the marine environment. A
"Google" search on plywood will turn up kinds that you have never heard of
to include fabric cover plywood immersed in epoxy. A similar search on MDF
    might find a suitable type.

You can also purchase preshaped solid wood, preprimed wood, and teak trim.
