I have recently installed water flow detectors on the output side of my
Main, AC genset and DC genset engine cooling systems. While they do not
provide the 'more analog' type of information that you suggest, they do
provide the 'more binary' FLOW / NOFLOW type of information that drives
an alarm buzzer. While I think your idea has interest in an application
where the instruments are being monitored (like main engine underway), I
was more interested in the case where a genset intake sucks up a plastic
bag or sea strainer clogs when I am not in front of the instruments. I
have had both of these happen to me in the past.
