My new Sears Craftsman "Chemical Splash/Impact Goggles" part number
9-18580 ( only $4.99 ) are in a Ziploc bag hanging next to my house
batteries and I will never again check my batteries without eye protection.
The salesman tried to convince me to buy a full face shield but I felt
like these goggles would give me adequate protection and that I would
be more likely to always use them than the face shield.
In a diesel engine room I think a 110 vac work light ought to be safe enough
if it is connected through a GFI. With all the metal and moisture
around it could be an electrocution hazard without a GFI. Keep the bulb
tight so there won't be any sparks at the socket. I think this must be what
ignited my dock neighbor's 8D last week because his bulb was a bit loose.

While I don't use a 110V work light to check batteries I am curious as to
why
it should not otherwise be used in the engine room? I frequently use a Sears
one with a fluorescent bulb - is there some issue here?
