I don't know what kind of bottom paint was on our boat when we bought it,
but it was a hard surface, which meant we could put an ablative (sloughing)
paint on over it. We used Petit ACP 50 on the bottom before the boat was
launched after its truck ride from San Francisco Bay, and we have stayed
with that paint ever since. The first two-coat job lasted three years, but
we were really pushing it that third year with barnacle build up on the
rudders and a few other places. We have the boat dove on every six months,
so the diver would knock them off, but it was obvious we shouldn't have
expected three years from the paint job.

When we had the bottom painted again, I had them put on two overall coats
plus two more along the waterline, forefoot and bow, and rudders. We
switched at this time to Petit UltimaSR, which is ACP 50 with biocide or
anti-slime additives. It seems to do a pretty good job of preventing a
buildup of "scum" on the bottom. However, we use the boat a fair amount,
so the bottom is getting "cleaned" fairly frequently.

We had the boat hauled the following (this) year and there were no
barnacles at all, and the bottom looked great. We could have gone a second
year, but hauled for an insurance survey requirement. As long as it was
out and pressure washed for the survey, we had the yard apply one coat of
UltimaSR plus one extra coat along the waterline and on the rudders.

ACP 50 or UltimaSR comes in a relatively few number of colors, but blue is
one of them. The bottom paint on our boat when we bought it was blue, so
we've been using black paint so we'll see blue on the bottom if the bottom
    paint starts wearing thin.

I'm not connected with Petit products, nor do I sell them. This is just
the experience we've had so far. I'll continue to use this paint as I feel
it's performed very well for us.
