Bob,
We too carry our old analog bag phone hooked up to an outside antenna. When
we are in Blackfish Sound (for instance) the digital signal is not as good
as the analog in Lagoon Cove. We pick up both but if it is an important
call use the bag phone (at $1.00 a minute in Canada). Otherwise we use the
Verizon.since it is activated for Canada and Alaska. We activate our
Verizon rather than our AT&T cell because it seems to work better up in
Alaska (at least for us). Also, you cannot access the Internet through your
computer when in Canada (unless you sign up with a Canadian source) so we
use our Pocket Mail. Works great. Requires Analog so you have to switch
the verizon or AT&T to analog to use it. If you cannot get a signal, the
old bag phone works great (at $1 a minute).
