    Hi Bob,

You will love Alaska. In fact we are going again next year ourselves.

We have Verizon. Pay $10 a month to get the extended Canada coverage. We
were up there three months last year and were only charged our monthly rate
plus the $10. Our friends have AT&T and they had trouble at Prince Rupert
and Hoonah, Point Baker and Pelican. Our phone always worked. AND since we
have the plan that covers the whole US and Alaska with no roaming or long
distance it was covered in our monthly plan. The AT&Ters kept saying that
their phone said roam and they could not use it. We had no problems in all
of Southeast Alaska. Even checked into Canada on our Can Pass while
    crossing Dixon Entrance.

We use our summers to catch up on reading so don't bring along our Dish. I
have heard that the reception for Direct TV sort of gets lost at the top end
of Vancouver Island. This is hearsay since we don't even bring our TV along
let alone the satellite dish. We are looking into satellite radio but hear
various reports on it working in BC and Alaska. I am still researching it.

Let us know when you are leaving next year and maybe we will see you along
    the way.
