One thing to keep in mind for any boat with wooden framed windows (not to
exclude other types of frames, just more common with wood)... moisture will
invariably creep down between the window and the hull/topside. Usually it's
not a problem in that the amount of small and it evaporates once the sun
warms it up. But, if the boat has been kept in cold climates, subject to
freezing and thawing during the winter months than the water that does creep
in will freeze and expand causing the seepage areas to open more and allow
more water intrusion. Next freeze, they expand a little more, more water
seeps in, ad nauseum. This is one of the reasons why you see such
variability with these type of boats - the 'southern' boats don't have as
many problems as the 'northern' boats but that's never included in the
    statistic.
