I have VDO tachs on my engines ( 8.2 Detroit's)one
tach does not operate until the engine RPM's reach
2000. The other works fine. To test the tach I swapped
the input wire from the good to the bad and the tach
worked fine. The signal is generated by the alternator
so I must assume the problem is in the alternator. Has
anyone run into this situation. I plan to pull the
alternator when I lay up in a few weeks but if the
problem could be a bad ground or something simple i
would like to identify it before I haul out. Any
suggestions other than what I plan to do.

    Tom Egan
