There is the physical issue as in climbing up and down ladders or steep
stairs to engine rooms and pilothouses. Jumping onto docks. That
becomes pretty self-evident.
But it's the competency issue I struggle with. We have some members of
our yacht club and our Auxiliary who should no longer be commanding a
vessel. It's just dangerous for them to continue. But how in the world
do you broach that subject. They are usually fiercely defensive and
fiercely determined to continue.
My observation leads me to believe that a couple of serious mishaps is
the only way that the message "it's time to let it go" is delivered.
I hope I have a friend with enough courage to talk to me when I reach
that stage... Question is... will I listen?

Folks,
This brings to mind a question that I've had for quite
a while, namely "how old is too old?"
