Trawlerites,
Dockwise Yacht Transport, the well known heavy lift shipping company, is
to take delivery of a new vessel which it has converted especially for
yacht transport later this month, and has announced details of a number
of new services.
Dockwise spokesperson Jenny de Leeuw said the new yacht transporter was
being converted at a shipyard in Vietnam and would be ready to make its
first voyage, to Auckland, New Zealand, in late November or early
December. It brings to five the number of yacht transport ships
available to the company.
The new vessel, a semi-submersible ship called Explorer, is designed to
submerge to allow yachts to be brought on board on their own keel over
the ship's stern.
In the longer term, de Leeuw confirmed that the company is also planning
to acquire another new vessel which it will use exclusively for yacht
transport, although an order for the construction of the vessel has not
yet been placed.
The company is offering a number of new services for yacht owners,
including two voyages it has scheduled from the Caribbean to Athens,
Greece, to coincide with the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
Another new destination for the yacht transport service offered by the
company is Golfito, in Costa Rica. Dockwise Yacht Transport has already
scheduled three voyages from several port calls to this new destination.
Dockwise Yacht Transport has also inaugurated a new, regular liner
service to the West Coast of the US, expanding its regular yacht
transport service to new cruising grounds in the region, including the
Alaskan Coast and the Acapulco area.
