Aluminum is a very tough material but if you drag it over rocks or concrete
protruding areas and edges will wear. Small boat dealers sell wear pads,
usually made out of a PVC or polyurethane plastic that are glued to the wear points
to protect them. We protect our aluminum boatyard pram from the wear caused by
dragging it up a rough concrete ramp bly gluing short lengths of 2x2" wood
strip next to the wear prone area. The front edge of each strip is wedge shaped
to minimize water resistance. The glue is rubbery GOOP. When the strips wear
down in a couple of seasons, they are pulled off and replaced.
