    Hi Jim.
    In my experience, some seal softeners work for a while,but it's just really
    postponing the inevitable. Replacing the rear seal on a BW is no big deal
    and can usually be done in the boat. Something to look for is whether the
    nut on the end of the gearbox/reduction output flange is tight. I thought I
    had a seal problem but in fact it was fluid leaking down the splines and
    past the flange.
