Hi Joel:
That sounds like a good plan to me, assuming you realize that Grp 27
batteries have quite limited AH capacity; probably in the range of 70 AH
each for a total of 150 AH or so. That's a pretty small house bank but
it will work. Also, in the world of Grp 27 batteries there are a very
wide range of types and qualities because this is a common vehicle size.
I would assume you have purchased good quality, marine, deep-cycle
batteries for this purpose.
We have a similar setup on our 24 foot Tolly with a Grp 27 starter
battery and 2 additional Grp 27 deep cycle house batteries. These are
isolated by a simple off/1/both switch.
As the Yandina folks mentioned here, there are various options for
wiring a simple house bank. You can do it with a manual switch, or with
a diode isolator, or with a combiner. Both the isolator and the
combiner alternatives can be combined with switches.
