Marge, I don't have any word on the specific protocol used. The few
christenings that I've attended were fairly short on protocol and pomp. But
I did want to remind you, if you plan on the traditional breaking of a
bottle of champagne or other bubbly over the bow, to use one that has been
scored to break more readily. I witnessed the use of an unscored bottle of
fine champagne that put a dent and severe scratch in the bow, during the
three attempts used to finally break the bottle. Many marine chandleries
sell ceremonial christening bottles pre-scored to permit a quick breaking
open of the bottle.
