Dennis is right on the money!
Diesels only need air, clean fuel, and compression to work. Premature
death is statistically either operator error or a con job. I asked Bob
Smith if he had ever seen a Lehman, properly maintained, wear out? He
said yes, it was on a ferry boat in Seattle and had 19,500 hours on it.
My Lehmans have 5500 hours on them. I run them hard, change the oil,
replace the oil and transmission coolers, HEX, and elbows before they
expire and have had a pretty trouble free cruising experience, Borg
Warner Velvet drive being the exception.
I would suggest cruisers minimally carry a spare starter, because if you
can't turn "Big Red" over, you are toast...
Regards.....
