Mike writes re: running low rpm on 3208T.
Mike, I have been running 3208 for a number of years. First let me say they
are bullet proof and will serve you very well as long as you keep them up to
spec ie, timing, valve adjustment and servicing the turbos not to mention the
    oil and filters.
When I first got my boat I ran it at 1800-2000 rpm and was concerned on my
poor fuel effency and also burning aprox 1 gal of oil every 20 hours. I took a
general maintenance course offered by Caterpillar (free, thanks Cat) and posed
my problem. There immediate reply was run the engines at 2350 rpm as much as
possable(500 under max) I did and fuel comsuption improved greatly and oil burn
went down. I learned 3208T are designed to run at 2350, its the nature of the
beast, and what beasts they are, Good lock

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't
do than by the things you did do. So, cast off your bowlines and sail away
from the safe harbor and ROCK.
Explore, dream, discover and be happy. You'll be a long time dead.
