    Also, consider the quality of the old compass Vs a new replacement. We had
    both compasses on Manana completely rebuilt. They are vintage Ritchie
    compasses. Our rebuilder told us that they would be worth rebuilding even
    if the rebuild costs as much as a new one (it didn't, it was less than 1/2)
    because the quality of the new models is no where near as good. The
    rebuilder is a personal friend so I trust his word.
