The USAA magazine contains a letter of complaint from a formal naval officer
who objects to the common useage of a ship being "docked". He insists that the
correct term is "moored." Technically, he says, the only time a ship is
docked is when it is in a dry dock, completely out of the water.
How do the language police on the TWL feel about this? I have some ambiguity
about useage because my boat normally lies to a mooring 1/4 mile from shore,
but when I pull up the town pier to pick up passengers, am I moored, or docked,
or possibly piered.
