In Maryland, on the Chesapeake, every darned MD home-ported, documented
vessel had better have an MD documentation decal. These are bi-annual and on
power boats are usually displayed on the forward portion of the port and
starboard side windows of the pilothouse or similar. Sailboats may display
the $3.00 decal on the mast.
Especially at the beginning of the season, DNR Police station themselves at
choke points such as the Severn River Bridge (new) and Knapp's Narrows, etc.
and intercept ALL boats not displaying appropriate decals or registration
numbers.
This is not a drill.

I know of few boats on the Cheasapeake that display state registration
decals.
