That should work OK in theory, Jim.
One advantage of the Vent Controller is it has a 45 minute turn off delay to
remove residual gasses, moisture and heat after charging stops. It also
cuts out (after the time delay) when the charger drops back to the float
voltage so you don't run the blower unnecessarily. This is especially
attractive for those using solar power where they only need the vapours
removed at the gassing level above 14 volts. Finally, the Vent Controller
only draws a couple of milliamps to run the indicator LED when "on" and
draws no current when "off". It is all solid state so you don't have the
power drain to keep a relay closed.

Keep in mind, no matter how you do it, that any relay used in the battery
compartment MUST be fully sealed and ignition proof.

The West Marine (Yandina made) 50 amp combiners are submersible which means
they are molded in epoxy resin and the relay connections ar not accessible.
The 150 amp model is splash proof but again if you access the internal
electronics to run an extra relay you will probably overload the drive
circuit and damage it. I imagine you also run that risk if you add an extra
    relay to the pathmaker.
