Arild seems to know a great deal about DIY magazine editorial and advertising
practices and the motivations of its editor. I have no particular insight
regarding this publication, other than having read it and having observed that
the solutions featured in each article invariably happened to be products
offerred by companies advertising in that issue. That does not suggest
conditions most favorable for the exercise of editorial independence. I never
said "all advertising is bad," or anything or the sort. Like others on the
list, I'd love to see a magazine catering to our trawler real-world interests,
maintaining our older boats, fixing things ourselves, etc., without having to
bow to the dictates of major advertisers. I think we all know that that is
going to be very tough to achieve. Let's hope it comes about.
