    In a message dated 8/3/03 12:02:26 AM,
     writes:

<< If you can shut down the engine and leave the key on how are your low oil
press/high water temp alarms wired? Normally the low oil pressure alarm
will activate when the engine is shut down, and when starting of course.
    >>

This is the way my boat works too, and in fact, most of the trawlers I have
been on. A mechanically controlled diesel is shut off by interupting the fuel
supply. It will also continue to run even if the key is turned to the off
position. If the solenoid button is pressed the engine fuel feed is shut off and
the engine stops. It will not start again without cranking the starter. I am
reminded that the key is still on by the 90dB howl of the warning horn.
