In my humble opinion, DIY Boat Owner Magazine is the most blatant offender I
have ever seen when it comes to editorial content linked to advertising.
Virtually every article in every issue (I had a subscription but dropped it
after a year) is directly linkable to an advertisement in that issue,
sometimes right on the same page. DIY makes Passagemaker look like a paragon
of journalistic virtue in this regard. I'm not saying the editorial content
of DIY is poor, just that it very obviously hypes the DIY advertisers'
products. Everybody has been knocking PMM for being ad-driven, but we know
most magazines are doing that to some extent. I feel that I get some benefit
from virtually every issue of Passagemaker, and Cruising World for that matter
-- even though I have no desire for a megayacht that I can't singlehand if
    needed.
