Eliminating false alarms, or excluding transients like a fish under the
transducer is probably somewhat of a holy grail for the depth sounder
makers. I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent it.
What you can do, is to make it easier to check for a false alarm. As part
of the refit of Maqana I put a repeater for the depth sounder right next to
my berth. If the depth alarm goes off, I can pick my open my eyes and read
the numbers without having to go the helm. That means I'll be much less
likely to either turn off the depth alarm or ignore it as a result of
numerous false alarms.
