Krogen 42's back to Starboard, so I prefer to pull alongside with the Port
side to the dock. You have to learn to "kick" the stern around with full
throttle. To get away from a dock in close quarters, I put the rudder hard
to Port, and give the engine about 2 seconds at full throttle in forward.
This will kick the stern out without making much, if any forward way. You
can then go to reverse and the prop walk will pull the stern further out.
Repeat as necessary. If it's really tight, lead a line from the forward Port
cleat aft, and spring the stern out by engaging forward gear with the rudder
hard to Port.
You can find more info. on handling single screw vessels, particularly
Krogens at: http://www.his.com/~vann/KrgStuff/Krognidx.htm
Scroll down about 3/4 and you'll find this in section 9. BTW, the first
picture on that site is my boat!
