Next message: Jim Fidler: "TWL: Re: Exhaust overtemp alarm circuit sketch"
I have had a goodly number of requests for my circuit sketch and have
gladly TRIED to respond to each, but I am fearful of having missed
somebody. If you have not received same, please re-request. I note
with pleasure that one of our members will possibly use my sketch as a
launching vehicle to improve his warning systems with a
multi-LED/multi-sensor type alarm panel. I would consider doing same
for CALYPSO were her alarm sounders not already unique enough for me to
quickly discern the situation. So an approach for "mature" boats like
mine without all this sort of stuff built in might be to install the LED
on the instrument cluster next to the gauge measuring the alarmed
parameter. In my case, I didn't have a remote reading pyrometer; so I
just stuck the three tiny exhaust heat LEDs into the lower station
instrument panel with a label under each. A large bell at the lower
station (noisier environment) and a unique-sound piezo at the upper
station (quieter environment) serve as the initial attention-grabbers
for this parameter. I do have to run down to the lower station to see
which of three units has caused the exhaust overheat piezo to sound, but
I consider the 5 second transit time (including bowling over anybody in
my way) acceptable response time. It will be interesting to see what
this crowd comes up with.
