As previously stated the felt liner will not keep out water. The channels
need to drain. My boat had 1/4" holes through the bottom track and the
window frame for drainage with a small piece of 1/4" copper tubing to line
the drain hole with. When I repaired the window frames I improved on this
by installing a new piece of 1/4" copper tubing through the window track and
the window frame. Cut the tubing a couple inches longer than you need it.
The new tubing is flared inside the window track. The plastic strip inside
the track needs to be beveled out to accept this flare so the tubing does
not interfere with the sliding glass. I glued the flared tubing in place by
coating it with 5200, then pushing it through the drain hole and setting the
flare inside the window track. Use a spring clamp on the tubing, against
the outside of the frame to hold the tubing in place until the 5200 sets up.
After it sets up you can remove the clamp and cut the tubing on the outside
of the frame to the desired length. I use a Dremel tool for this. I leave
the tubing sticking out about 1/4" past the underside of the frame. These
need to be kept clean and I have a handy tool for this, though I don't know
what it is or where I got it. It's a 1/8" steel rod with a wood handle.
The rod is about 8 inches long. That's my window drain cleaning tool. I
was having a difficult time keeping the drains cleaned until I replaced the
window tracks. The felt in the old tracks had rotted and every time it
rained some more came loose and found its way into the drain.

Andy
