Lee,

It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of the type of boat you are
looking for, though you didn't mention price or size. You did mention the
Nordhaven, and someone on the List eluded to the Krogen 39. There are
others available. The Defever 49 comes to mind. Grand Banks makes the
Europa models. Marine Trader makes similar boats. To be sure, you have a
difficult decision ahead of you.

By all means look at the new boats and ask lots of questions.

One of the best features of the Trawler Fest is the Trawler Crawl. This is
where people who have brought their boats to the festival open them up for
others to browse through them. Take advantage of this. Walk the docks,
look at the boats that are there, and talk to the owners. What do they like
about their boat? What don't they like? Most people at the Trawler Fest
are more than eager to show you their boat and talk about it. More
information can be obtained from an owner who is actually using the boat
than from a salesman.

Talk to people at the happy hour and the dinners. What kind of boat do you
have? How do you like it? What kind of boat are you looking for? Again,
everybody loves to talk about their boats.

Try to attend the seminars that will entertain you. Don't worry about
Diesel Repair 101 For Women, or AC/DC Systems. All that will come after you
have the boat and you can apply it. We have been most entertained by
Skipper Bob and Chuck Hawley. And what is a Trawler Fest without listening
and talking to Bob Smith? No matter what the subject. I know there are
other very good speakers and I don't mean to leave anybody out, but these
three stick in my mind the most. The point is, don't get to technical to
fast. You don't want to scare your bride off before you ever get started,
do you?

Most of all, go to the Trawler Fest to have some fun. This is the beginning
of your dream. Don't pressure yourself into making a hasty decision.
Remember, all boats are a series of compromises.
Usually, when the right boat comes along, you will know.

Perhaps we will see you in Solomon's.

Good Luck,

Andy
