According to BoatAntenna who sell Telular this is not so - a CDMA unit
was in the works and they were testing it last month - see their web

unit up and running too, 'cause they ain't cheap. I spoke to the local
Verizon people about this and they said all they would need would be the
code number for the unit and then they would issue a phone number for it
--- however my experience of store employees is very mixed to put it
mildly. Nice people who generally know only what they need to know to
sell phones.
Perhaps BoatAntenna.com might shed some light on this? Howard there has
been very responsive to my inquiries.

Ron and all readers,
I have checked with Verizon and learned that they use only CDMA based
phones, not TDMA. Telular at last check did not produce CDMA phones so
you're right, beware of what you hear from retail stores.
