I have also explored this option and have yet to rule it out. There is a
product called Gavcon which is supposed to bond well with old fuel tanks.
As for baffles, this is what concerns me also... am exploring coming at it
from the top. While recognizing that this process is far more time
consuming than replacing tanks, I am curious about the statement concerning
cost. My fuel tanks are mounted along both sides, flanking the generator
behind the main (old Grand Banks 36). Short of cutting holes in the side of
the hull (a procedure which is done but worries me structurally at best), my
only option is to cut up the old tanks and have custom interlocking tanks
made to fit into a relatively small opening or gut the interior of the boat
and make a bigger hole. Neither option appears very desirable to me. How
is it that you feel the new tank route is preferable?
