Go to http://www.garmin.com, click on "software updates" in the
left-hand menu, find your unit in the list.. keep clicking til you get
to the "download" page - that will give all the details of the changes
between versions, and information on how to upload.

For the 2010, you can either upload from a PC serial port to the
receiver's NMEA/DGPS data input, or by using a USB card programmer.

Software updates for several other Garmin receivers have been released
recently.
