Mike,
Have you considered using High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) also known as
Starboard. I have made a number of boxes with it -- works almost like wood
and very durable. I say, works almost like wood, because it is tricky to
glue, but you can screw it together and cover the screws with plugs made
with the same material.
