We had our new boat shipped from north of Seattle to northern Mississippi a
little over a year ago. But I don't remember at the moment the shipper
involved.

The most important suggestion I have to offer, and this came as strong advice
from our insurer, is that you take out special insurance on the boat for the
trip. Don't rely on insurance the shipper has because, as my agent
explained, they often try to find some reason not to pay and you can find
yourself in a long and drawn out process. It will be worth a lot to you in
terms of peace of mind.

Also, check to see if they shrink wrap the boat before shipping. It's not
necessarily a good idea. If it tears loose as it is prone to do, and begins
to flap in the wind, it can seriously damage fiberglass via constant
abrasion. If the boat is shipped without wrapping, make sure they seal
everything tight. Highway dirt and grime will creep in every opening, no
matter how small.

And finally, try to be there when the boat arrives at its destination. Go
over the boat carefully with the driver and make sure any damage from rocks
or other debris is noted. Doing that afterward will probably be too late for
you to make a claim.

I hope this helps.
