Although rule float switches have gotten a bad rap here on TWL, I've used

others..everybody seems to carry Rule.

The variety of replies concerning Rule ( or for that matter any other
brand ) switch failures prompts me to ask the list for more details.
There doesn't seem to be a middle ground between the very cheap basic Rule
pump and the next step up which is much more expensive.
I'm wondering if I have simply missed the news or if this is in fact an
accurate picture of what is available.
I once saw a new product release concerning a switch which would stop
pumping if oil was in the bilge but have never seen this in local stores.
Again I wonder if the product died from infant mortality (lack of market
accceptance) or is doing nicely without much publicity.
Considering how important it is to keep the water out of the bilge, bilge
pumping arrangements should be high on the priority list for all boaters. Is
it important to have a high water alarm. If not, why?
If important what becomes the critical criteria. Does it matter at what
height the high alarm is mounted.
How do you determine such a significant height; if there is one?
